Judah and the Lion (for teens)

 

  You’d think people who share a common bloodline and social upbringing while sharing life experiences would live together harmoniously. As you know, this is a rare thing. Husbands and wives may divorce, families may splinter and separate, nations may war against another - economically, politically or militarily, or a nation may be divided internally. 

  What would it take for people to lay down their selfish desires and sacrifice for peace? Certainly, it would take a great, even a miraculous change! This was why Jesus came, 

'I came that they might have life and might have it abundantly.' John 10:10

   God’s covenants throughout   the Old Testament promise ‘A Savior is coming.’  God's Promise in His rainbow to Noah speaks of His judgment but His mercy as well. God would raise up through Abraham a special people through which He would show the world His acts of faithfulness, blessing and salvation. Week Three (continued) - The Names

 In the Old Testament God reveals Who He is by telling us His Name. In fact, He relates over 15 Names and many more descriptions that we may know Him. We will see that Jesus identifies with many of the Names of God; yet, even in the Old Testament God announces that He is doing something new -  The word Messiah comes from the Hebrew word massah, meaning to smear or anoint something or someone. Certain people - either a priest (Exodus 28:41), a prophet (1 Kings 19:16) or a king (1 Samuel 16:12) – were anointed as being especially chosen by God for a task. From its first use in the Old Testament 'Messiah' was promised to be the coming King and Judge by God's strength. The Greek word for Messiah was Christ, also taken from a word, christos, meaning to anoint.   John 12 follows the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. Abraham and the Lamb

  Abraham and Isaac - Matthew 1:2, Genesis 22 “And Abraham said, ‘God, Himself, will provide  the lamb  for the burnt offering, my son.’ ... And Abraham looked up and behind him he saw a ram, caught in a thicket by his horns."  Genesis 22:8,13 Throughout the Old Testament, God revealed Himself and His plan to men and women stirring their hearts to trust Him as God. Instead of Abraham offering up his son, Isaac, as a sacrifice to God ...
